Reef Balls are copyrighted worldwide (TXu 630-706) and to reproduce them with our molds, your molds, other in any other way requires a LICENSE from the Reef Ball Foundation.

All Reef Ball Licenses Require:

• Any reef ball mold use with an intended modular gross weight over 250 Kilograms (550 Pounds) requires users to have obtained training directly from the Reef Ball Foundation or one of our certified trainers

• All mold users are expected to reasonably maintain our quality standards for construction and deployment. Higher standards are often required for more complex applications such as less than 10 meters (30 feet) of depth, if human remains are incorporated in the modules, when non-standard sizes or shapes such as bases, anchoring attachments, or other modifications are required and when Reef Balls will be exposed to unusual elements such as ice,   being used to tie or attach equipment, buoys or crafts, etc.

• Certified RBF Coral Teams members are required to transplant* hard coral on Reef Balls.

If you acquired molds through our Reefs Around The World Grant program (generally sold at 40% below retail) then your license is good for the originally stated project/purpose and your molds cannot be used for any other purpose without an additional license from us (sometimes additional licenses are free such as when you may be lending your molds to another active and current grant recipient).  You may not SELL your molds but you may return back to us for recycling to other worthy  projects.  Licenses from the Grant program are not transferable, cannot be used for erosion control projects except Living Shorelines* with permission from us, Reef Balls cannot be made with your molds or in any way and re-sold to anyone else, and you can not put human remains in any Reef Balls,

If you are a qualified non-profit organization you may solicit donations to sponsor Reef Balls never to exceed the actual cost for concrete, labor, transportation and deployment costs and in costs for certain post deployment activities such as coral propagation and planting and Reef Ball Foundation approved or required monitoring.  When you purchase molds through our Grant program you are implicitly accepting whatever our current licensing requirements are even when they are updated and it is your responsibility to check our official websites or contact our staff for a clarifying email for your situation.   If you are a non-profit organization you may obtain grants for your projects that do not contain the donation restrictions (i.e. grants can include staff support, salaries, or other expenses as your grantor allows), however you can NOT solicit payments for projects without first having a royalty agreement with Reef Ball Foundation or working through a Reef Ball Authorized Contractor for your project. 

*Living Shorelines are defined as  erosion control projects where the sole purpose is to protect a native or indigenous natural habitat with no intentions of the erosion control benefiting private interests such as human structures.  Good examples including building submerged breakwaters to protect bird nesting islands, wetlands, mangroves, national, state or local park littoral interfaces, protection from salt marsh erosion, and to stabilize other native or natural environments.
